## Description

Oysters, octopus and Atlantic fish define Dakhla's economy, but none of that catch leaves by air — it travels by road and sea. The airport, on a thin peninsula between the ocean and the desert about seven kilometres north of town, handles Royal Air Maroc flights to Casablanca and Marrakech, charters to Madrid, Paris-Orly and Las Palmas, plus military traffic; Swissport has run ground services since 2018. The region's freight future rests on the Dakhla Atlantic Port now under construction, not on the runway. Air cargo here is belly freight only, with larger volumes routed through Casablanca (CMN). For forwarders, VIL is a passenger and feeder airport rather than a cargo site.
