## Description

Roughly 20,244 tonnes of air cargo passed through Daegu International Airport (TAE/RKTN) in 2023 - a niche volume by Korean standards, and almost entirely belly freight on passenger services. The field shares its site with K-2 air base and serves the Daegu-Gyeongbuk industrial region, whose machinery, electronics and textile exports feed an international network focused on Japan, China and Southeast Asia. Customs clearance is available on site, which makes TAE workable for time-critical express and perishable consignments within Asia. Intercontinental volumes and freighter capacity are picked up instead at Incheon (ICN), a little over three hours by truck on the Gyeongbu expressway, or at Busan Gimhae (PUS), considerably closer at around ninety minutes. The decisive issue is relocation: South Korea's defence ministry has approved moving the military airfield, and the city and central government are working towards a joint civil-military replacement in Uiseong and Gunwi counties by 2030. Cramped inner-city land and noise complaints drove the decision; for regional air freight the move promises more space in the medium term, but also a longer road leg out of Daegu itself.
