## Description

GOI is one of the few IATA codes attached to a navy base: Dabolim Airport operates as a civil enclave on INS Hansa, an Indian Navy air station in Goa, run by the Airports Authority of India. For decades it was Goa's only airport, serving charter tourism from Europe and Russia alongside dense domestic links. Since Manohar International Airport (GOX) opened at Mopa in 2023, some passenger traffic has shifted north, but cargo tells a different story: Dabolim handled around 5,460 tonnes in fiscal 2024/25, up 10.4 percent, while Mopa handled roughly 2,986 tonnes in fiscal 2025/26, down 11.9 percent. For now, Dabolim remains Goa's more important freight airport, though naval operations can still restrict civilian slots. Intercontinental connections and larger shipments still mostly route via Mumbai (BOM).
