## Description

The code exists, the operation does not: Curuzú Cuatiá's General Manuel Belgrano Airport (IATA: UZU, ICAO: SATU) in southern Corrientes Province is closed and derelict. Built in the 1970s and owned by the province, it once saw weekly Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral flights to Buenos Aires; of the original 2,121-metre runway only around 1,000 metres remain usable. There is no commercial cargo handling, no ground handler and no customs post. The surrounding area lives from cattle ranching and arable farming, and its goods travel by road, above all along the Ruta Nacional 14 corridor to the Paso de los Libres–Uruguaiana border crossing into Brazil, a little over 100 km to the east. Air freight is booked through Corrientes (CNQ), some 250 km north, and through Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) for intercontinental shipments.
