Cuers-Pierrefeu airfield (ICAO LFTF) in the Var département belongs to the French defence ministry: across some 170 hectares with a runway of about 1,983 metres, the Ateliers Industriels de l'Aéronautique maintain naval aircraft, the naval air station itself having closed in 1997. Only a small civil zone of roughly seven hectares is open to general aviation and microlights; there is no scheduled service, no cargo handling, no handling agent and no customs post. Regional air freight moves through Toulon-Hyères (TLN) some 25 kilometres south-east and through Marseille-Provence (MRS), Provence's main cargo airport with freighter services, cool chain and customs.
