## Description

More than 4.6 million passengers passed through Corfu Ioannis Kapodistrias International Airport (IATA: CFU, ICAO: LGKR) in 2025, up over six per cent and enough to place it among Greece's five busiest airports — yet almost none of that traffic is freight in its own right. Fraport Greece has run the Ionian island's airport since 2017, and international arrivals alone reached 2,080,517 in 2025. There is no cargo terminal, no freighter handling and no certified cold-chain facility, so air freight moves purely as belly cargo on passenger flights by Aegean, Sky Express, Ryanair, easyJet and the summer charter carriers, which suits courier, spare-part and small consignments. Seasonality dictates capacity: hold space is plentiful from June to September and shrinks in winter to the daily Athens rotations. Heavy and bulky goods therefore travel by truck via the ferry link to the mainland port of Igoumenitsa and onward along the Egnatia Odos motorway. Fraport Greece counts Corfu among four Greek airports close to capacity and has commissioned terminal expansion planning that extends both ends of the building and improves Schengen and non-Schengen passenger flows, without cargo facilities. For customs-cleared air freight and freighter capacity, forwarders work through Athens (ATH, about 380 km) or Thessaloniki (SKG).
