## Description

Air France, Brussels Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Ethiopian Airlines, Emirates, ASKY and Air Senegal all serve Conakry (CKY, ICAO: GUCY), officially Ahmed Sékou Touré International and locally known as Gbessia – Guinea's principal airport, about 13 km northeast of the city centre. Cargo moves both as belly freight on these scheduled services and on dedicated freighters, with carriers such as Ethiopian and Turkish bringing widebody capacity. An ongoing modernisation is enlarging the cargo facilities to 3,600 m² and lifting capacity towards three million passengers a year, alongside customs clearance and bonded storage on site. Guinea is the world's largest bauxite exporter, but that bulk commodity leaves by sea through the ports of Conakry and Kamsar; air freight handles higher-value goods, mining spares and perishables instead. The country has no general-purpose rail network – its railways essentially serve bauxite haulage to the coast – so surface distribution relies on the road. For forwarders, CKY is West Africa's gateway to a fast-growing mining economy rather than a transit cargo centre.
