## Description

Fifty-two weeks of Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training, not a freight schedule, define Columbus Air Force Base (IATA: CBM, ICAO: KCBM), some nine miles north of Columbus, Mississippi. The 14th Flying Training Wing of Air Education and Training Command trains student pilots here on the T-6 Texan II and T-38C Talon, currently under Col. Joshua D. Jensen. The 50th Flying Training Squadron was inactivated in July 2025, one of the more recent structural changes at a base that opened in 1941. Civil air cargo is not an option: there is no commercial freighter activity, no cargo terminal and no forwarder access, with military resupply running solely through Department of Defense logistics. Regional civil shipments feed through nearby Golden Triangle Regional Airport (GTR) or are trucked to Memphis (MEM), home of the FedEx world hub, about 150 miles (240 km) to the northwest. Larger volumes can also be routed via Birmingham (BHM) or Atlanta (ATL).
