## Description

DET and KDET identify Coleman A. Young International Airport, the city field on Detroit's east side about 10 km northeast of downtown — named for Detroit's first Black mayor, Coleman A. Young. Scheduled airlines pulled out years ago; today it serves general aviation, flight training and government flights, running roughly 90 movements a day, 96 percent of them general aviation. Despite the "international" title and on-site U.S. customs clearance, it handles no cargo of its own. Air freight for the Motor City clears through Detroit Metro (DTW) or the all-cargo field at Willow Run (YIP), both a short drive away. Avflight has run the airport as sole operator under a 30-year lease since 2024. For shippers, DET is a business-aviation base, not a freight gateway.
