## Description

Coimbatore's industrial belt, India's pump and motor capital with a dense textile and engineering cluster, generates the freight moving through Coimbatore International Airport (CJB/VOCB), Tamil Nadu's second-busiest airport after Chennai. In fiscal 2024/25 the airport handled around 12,139 tonnes of air cargo, up 36 percent year on year, with domestic traffic accounting for some 10,269 tonnes. Exports to the Gulf travel mostly as belly cargo on passenger flights, supplemented by occasional charters; there is no scheduled freighter operation. Facilities include cold storage for perishables, X-ray screening and a bonded warehouse for customs-bound shipments. The Airports Authority of India is expanding the site in phases: a dedicated cargo terminal with enlarged apron, additional warehousing and automated handling was scheduled from November 2025 and is sized for up to 15,000 tonnes a year, with further expansion under review. High-value, time-sensitive traffic in auto components, electronics, pharmaceuticals and textiles drives the growth, with road feeder services reaching Tirupur and Karur. For heavy international volumes Kochi (COK) some 190 kilometres southwest and the cargo hub at Bengaluru (BLR) are the practical alternatives; Chennai (MAA) lies roughly 500 kilometres east.
