## Description

Pallets have no place at Cognac-Châteaubernard Air Base (IATA: CNG, ICAO: LFBG): home to base BA 709 in France's Charente département, it is one of only two sites, alongside Salon-de-Provence, where the French Air and Space Force trains its pilots. Two units have been based here since 2020: fighter training school 00.315 Christian Martell, which trains fighter pilots and weapons systems officers, and the 33e ESRA, operating MALE drones and Beechcraft King Air 350 ALSR aircraft for surveillance and reconnaissance. Students fly the Grob 120 for basic training and the Pilatus PC-21 for advanced fighter training, with nine further PC-21s and an additional simulator taking the fleet to 26 aircraft and six full simulators. The surrounding Cognac region is world-famous for its eponymous brandy, whose exports move by road and through the major Atlantic ports.
