## Description

FedEx and UPS have both placed major bets on Clark International Airport (CRK), the former US air base at Mabalacat in Pampanga, some 80 km north of Manila. FedEx has run a 17,000 sq m gateway here since 2021 — sorting up to 9,000 parcels an hour — and is investing about USD 240 million to grow it into an Asian hub, while UPS began building its own facility in early 2025 for a late-2026 launch. Chinese freighter operators including YTO Cargo Airlines, China Postal Airlines, Central Airlines and Tianjin Air Cargo have piled in to serve surging cross-border e-commerce. The numbers reflect it: Clark handled 58,459 tonnes in 2024, up 32 percent, then roughly 35,900 tonnes in the first five months of 2025 alone, doubling year on year. The airport sits inside the Clark Freeport Zone, offering bonded storage and dedicated customs clearance. Expressway links via NLEX and SCTEX, plus the nearby seaport of Subic, give it strong multimodal reach. A second runway is planned to absorb the growth and relieve congested Manila.
