## Description

FedEx, UPS and a wave of Chinese freighter operators have made Clark International Airport (CRK) the busiest growth story in Philippine air cargo. Built on the former US air base at Mabalacat in Pampanga, some 80 km north of Manila, the airport handled 93,900 tonnes in 2025, up roughly 60 percent from 58,500 tonnes in 2024, and takes freight pressure off congested NAIA (MNL). FedEx has run a 17,000 sq m gateway here since 2021, sorting up to 9,000 parcels an hour, with an expansion due by 2028, while UPS plans to open its own facility in 2026. YTO Cargo Airlines, China Postal Airlines, Central Airlines and Tianjin Air Cargo serve cross-border e-commerce flows; in total about ten carriers operate some 75 weekly freighter flights to 14 destinations. The airport lies inside the Clark Freeport Zone, which provides bonded storage and its own customs clearance, and the NLEX and SCTEX expressways put trucks into Manila in a little over two hours, with Subic seaport about 60 km west. Thirty hectares have been set aside for a dedicated Cargo City and a second runway is targeted for 2029. Shippers needing alternatives for Luzon can route via Manila (MNL) or Subic Bay (SFS).
