## Description

Churchill sits on the west shore of Hudson Bay, roughly 1,000 km north of Winnipeg and beyond the end of the road network, so Churchill Airport (IATA YYQ, ICAO CYYQ) provides the only year-round transport link. Calm Air, the main carrier, operates ATR 42 and ATR 72 services to Winnipeg (YWG) three to five times a week, carrying belly freight alongside passengers; there is no dedicated cargo terminal and no regular freighter operation. Heavy and bulk goods reach the town by the Hudson Bay Railway or by ship during the short summer navigation window, leaving air transport to time-critical supplies, food, spare parts, medical shipments and medevac flights.
