## Description

Five years of construction, 1.3 billion yuan and a first for Chinese aviation: when Xiannüshan Airport (IATA CQW, ICAO ZUWL) opened in December 2020, it became the country's first civil airport built inside a top-rated 5A scenic area. The 2,800-metre, category 4C facility flies tourists to the UNESCO-listed Wulong Karst and is sized for 600,000 passengers a year. There is no freight terminal, no freighter handling and no customs post, and belly cargo is negligible in practice. Wulong sits roughly 130 km southeast of central Chongqing, linked by expressway and the Chongqing–Huaihua railway, so consignments reach the right terminal by truck within a few hours. That terminal is Chongqing Jiangbei (CKG), one of western China's largest cargo airports, which handled 548,485 tonnes of cargo and mail in 2025 — passing half a million tonnes for the first time — on the back of around 20 international and regional freighter routes with some 66 weekly frequencies and consolidation volumes from SF Express, JD Logistics and TEMU. Exporters in the Wulong area should therefore plan from CKG and treat CQW purely as passenger access.
