## Description

Around 150,000 passengers a year pass through Chita-Kadala (HTA/UIAA), the airport of Chita, capital of the Transbaikal region in eastern Siberia. A single 2,799-metre concrete runway serves roughly 13 destinations flown by about eight airlines, the busiest being Irkutsk (IKT), with the only international link reaching Hailar (HLD) in China. Air cargo moves only as belly load in passenger aircraft; there is no dedicated freight terminal and no regular freighter handling. A modernisation programme running since 2025 covers the apron, taxiways and lighting and foresees a longer runway, additional aircraft stands and flood protection, while a temporary storage warehouse of some 26,500 square metres is planned within the Transbaikalia priority development area — the first serious step towards local customs capacity. Until then heavy goods travel on the Trans-Siberian Railway, which runs through Chita, with the Zabaikalsk crossing carrying road traffic into China. For larger air-freight volumes, Irkutsk and Novosibirsk-Tolmachevo (OVB) remain the relevant cargo gateways.
