## Description

Runways built for Cold War bombers now carry regional jets: Chippewa County International (CIU/KCIU) occupies the former Kincheloe Air Force Base south of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, with a primary runway of 7,203 feet (2,196 m). Delta Connection serves the field under the Essential Air Service programme with roughly fourteen non-stop jet flights a week to Detroit and Minneapolis, and traffic reached about 60,400 passengers in the twelve months to February 2026. There is no cargo terminal, no freighter activity and no air-freight customs post. The region's tonnage moves by water: the Soo Locks at Sault Ste.
