## Description

Chios mastic (mastiha), the island's celebrated resin, is its best-known export — though little of it leaves by air. Chios Island National Airport (IATA JKH, ICAO LGHI) lies just south of the island capital in the eastern Aegean, close to the Turkish coast, and is operated by Fraport Greece. Aegean and Sky Express link the island mainly with Athens and Thessaloniki, and a new departures hall opened under a roughly €25 million upgrade in 2024–25. The airport has no dedicated cargo handling; freight volumes are small and travel as belly load. The national cargo hub is Athens (ATH), about 200 km away.
