## Description

A fighter base until 1998, Chindant — also known as Borzya-2 — is a Russian Air Force airfield about 13 kilometres west of the town of Borzya in Transbaikal Siberia, once home to the 189th Guards Fighter-Bomber Regiment and its Sukhoi Su-17s. There is no civilian traffic and no commercial cargo handling: the field carries no civil traffic codes and is closed to forwarders. What matters logistically here runs on rails. Borzya is a junction on the Trans-Baikal line toward the Zabaikalsk/Manzhouli crossing, the largest rail border point between Russia and China, where regional checkpoints handled around 25 million tonnes of goods in 2025 and Manzhouli processed 4,867 China-Europe freight trains carrying some 506,000 TEU, up 11.2 percent. In May 2026 Moscow and Beijing agreed to build an additional railway between the two border towns. Air cargo for the region is handled at Chita-Kadala Airport (HTA), several hundred kilometres to the northwest.
