Three runways at roughly 2,290 feet, and none of them open to a forwarder: Armitage Field (NID/KNID) is the airfield of Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake near Ridgecrest, California, and serves military flight test only. The station spans more than a million acres of Mojave Desert, the largest single landholding of the US Navy, and has tested weapons there since the Second World War — the Sidewinder missile was developed on this range in the 1950s. There is no scheduled traffic, no general aviation access and no commercial cargo handling on the base. Charter and business flights in the Ridgecrest area use the public Inyokern Airport (IYK) instead, though it too handles no air freight. Regular air cargo for the region is processed in Southern California, chiefly at the freight airport of Ontario (ONT) and at Los Angeles (LAX), both a few hours away by truck via US-395 and Highway 14.
