## Description

Sitting in Bukovina in south-western Ukraine, only a short drive from the Romanian border, Chernivtsi Leonid Kadeniuk International Airport (CWC/UKLN) has a geography that would suit cross-border logistics well — but it has been closed to commercial aviation since 24 February 2022, along with every other Ukrainian civil airport. Before the closure it handled mostly domestic services and seasonal charters, and even then there was no dedicated cargo terminal or freighter operation. A government working group was formed in March 2026 to prepare a safe reopening of Ukrainian airspace, though no date has been announced. What still works is the road: the Porubne-Siret crossing leads directly toward Suceava in Romania. Air freight for western Ukraine is consequently flown into Suceava Stefan cel Mare (SCV), Iasi (IAS), Chisinau (KIV) in Moldova or Rzeszów-Jasionka (RZE) in Poland and then trucked across the border. Clearance is carried out by the Ukrainian customs service, and shippers should budget for border waiting times and verify war-risk cover, sanctions rules and dual-use classification before dispatch.
