## Description

Before February 2022 Cherkasy International Airport (CKC/UKKE) was a modest charter field in central Ukraine on the Dnipro river and an official weather alternate for Kyiv Boryspil, some 190 road kilometres to the north-west. That history is where its cargo relevance currently ends: Ukrainian civil airspace has been closed to commercial aviation since 24 February 2022, and every Ukrainian commercial airport, Cherkasy included, remains shut to civilian traffic. In March 2026 the government set up a working group drawn from the State Aviation Administration, the military, air traffic control and airport operators to prepare a safe reopening, but no date has been announced and a restart of scheduled and freight services is considered unlikely while the war continues. Air freight destined for central Ukraine therefore moves through airports outside the country, principally Rzeszów-Jasionka (RZE) in south-eastern Poland, supported by Warsaw Chopin (WAW), Kraków (KRK) and Chisinau (KIV) in Moldova. From there consignments continue by truck through the border crossings toward Lviv, Kyiv and Cherkasy, with substantial waiting times at the frontier and clearance by the Ukrainian customs service.
