## Description

New Timehri Handling Services and Swissport run the freight sheds at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (GEO), and in September 2024 United Cargo added its own import station — a measure of how fast Guyana's air trade is expanding. The country's primary airport sits at Timehri on the Demerara River, about 40 km south of Georgetown, with scheduled links to Miami, New York, Toronto, Panama City and Port of Spain on Caribbean Airlines, American, JetBlue and Copa. Throughput reached roughly 13,500 tonnes in 2024, up 19 percent year on year, driven by the offshore oil sector. Imports are dominated by oil-and-gas equipment, machinery and consumer goods, while exports run to gold, fish and shrimp. Customs clearance goes through the Guyana Revenue Authority, and road links toward Georgetown and the Demerara oil bases underpin the supply chain. An ongoing expansion is enlarging the terminal, apron and cargo facilities to match the surge in volumes. For forwarders, GEO is the only international cargo gateway in the country.
