## Description

Terminal floor space at Cheboksary Airport (CSY/UWKS) grew more than threefold in the rebuild completed in June 2025, following the opening of a new domestic terminal in December 2024. The infrastructure is sized for roughly half a million passengers and about 3,000 tonnes of freight a year, which places the airport of the Russian republic of Chuvashia firmly in the regional category rather than among cargo gateways. Freight moves almost entirely as belly cargo on domestic passenger services; warehouse space and a customs presence exist on site, but there is no scheduled freighter operation. Since 2022 the integrators DHL, FedEx and UPS have not served Russia and EU and North American carriers avoid Russian airspace, so international shipments to Chuvashia are routed through Moscow or via Türkiye, the Gulf and Central Asia. Kazan (KZN) roughly 100 kilometres east and Nizhny Novgorod (GOJ) some 230 kilometres west offer wider capacity, with the M7 trunk road carrying the road feeder service in both directions. Shippers in the EU, the UK or Switzerland should check current sanctions and export control lists before booking, because listed goods may not be exported at all.
