Some 570 kilometres of roadless tundra separate Chaybukha Airport (ICAO: UHMG) from the nearest cargo gateway, which is why this 2,000-metre concrete runway 06/24 in northern Magadan Oblast matters at all. Sitting at 207 feet about 8 kilometres north-east of the Chaybukha settlement in the Severo-Evensk district of the Russian Far East, it is one of the few paved fields in the area able to take mid-size airliners and gives a sparsely populated region its link to the outside world. No IATA code is assigned, and there is no cargo terminal, customs post or scheduled freighter operation; goods, mail and supplies ride as belly load on regional flights. Infrastructure is limited to rudimentary taxiways and a small apron, so cargo handling in any Western sense is not available.
