## Description

In 2019, CHA became the first airport in the United States to run entirely on solar power, drawing on a 2.74-megawatt array. Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (IATA: CHA, ICAO: KCHA), historically Lovell Field, is at heart a passenger gateway serving roughly one million travellers a year on Allegiant, American and Delta. Only limited belly cargo and express feeder traffic move through the field; there is no dedicated all-cargo hub, despite the Volkswagen plant at Enterprise South and a dense trucking cluster. Heavier freight from the Tennessee Valley travels by road to Atlanta — under two hours south on I-75 — or to Nashville. A roughly US$28 million terminal expansion added two boarding gates in March 2024. For shippers, CHA's freight map still points firmly to Atlanta.
