## Description

From 1957 until 1989 Datuopu was the scheduled airport of Changsha, capital of Hunan; when Huanghua opened, all civil traffic moved out and the site in Tianxin district reverted entirely to the People's Liberation Army Air Force. Listed in aeronautical records as ZGCS and carrying no IATA code, it is today a purely military field with a single runway of roughly 2,490 by 27.5 metres, used among other things as a base for training sorties with Xian H-6 bombers. There is no civil handling, no freight acceptance and no customs post for commercial goods, and the field appears on no forwarder's routing list. Air cargo for greater Changsha and for Hunan as a whole runs through Changsha Huanghua International (CSX) about 25 kilometres to the east, which has its own cargo zone, customs clearance and international freighter links. Wuhan Tianhe (WUH) serves as the alternative toward the Yangtze corridor and central China, Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN) for southbound traffic. Hinterland connections use the G4 and G60 expressways and the inland river port of Changsha on the Xiang.
