## Description

Cattle, sugarcane and citrus define the countryside around Barretos in northwestern São Paulo state, yet the Chafei Amsei state airport (BAT) plays no part in those flows. After several years without scheduled flights, commercial service returned with Azul Conecta: two weekly rotations, Tuesdays and Saturdays, to Campinas-Viracopos, operated by a nine-seat Cessna Grand Caravan. Since 2022 the state of São Paulo has invested some 15 million reais through its airport programme in runway, safety and approach aids, including a PAPI on threshold 09 - but not in a cargo shed, a cool chain or a customs post. Regional air freight therefore runs through Viracopos (VCP), Brazil's largest cargo airport, about 400 road kilometres south, with São José do Rio Preto (SJP) and Ribeirão Preto (RAO) as closer options for domestic traffic. Access is via the Rodovia Brigadeiro Faria Lima (SP-326) and the Anhanguera corridor, where trucking is the standard for pre- and on-carriage. Barretos also hosts a major cancer treatment centre, which explains local demand for time-critical medical shipments - handled, in practice, through Viracopos and the road network.
