## Description

Kuelap, the Gocta falls and the cliff sarcophagi of the Chachapoya culture bring most passengers to Chachapoyas (CHH), the regional airport of Peru's Amazonas region, about six kilometres from the provincial capital. The field sits at roughly 2,540 metres, is operated by state company CORPAC while Aeropuertos del Peru runs the passenger terminal, and offers essentially one scheduled route to Lima with around 40 departures a month. There is no cargo terminal, no cool chain and no dangerous-goods handling, and the thin hold capacity of the regional aircraft in use limits shipments to courier-size belly cargo. Coffee, cocoa and fruit from Amazonas - the region's main exports - therefore leave the highlands by truck via Bagua Grande and Jaen to the north coast at Chiclayo, and onward by air through Lima Jorge Chavez (LIM) or by sea through Paita and Callao. Jaen (JAE) and Tarapoto (TPP) are the practical alternate airports, neither with dedicated freight handling. Anyone moving time-critical goods into Amazonas should plan on LIM plus one to two days of road pre-carriage.
