## Description

Opened in 1942 as a British Commonwealth Air Training Plan station, CFB Greenwood (YZX/CYZX) has spent its entire life in uniform and never became a freight airport. Today 14 Wing of the Royal Canadian Air Force flies CP-140 Aurora long-range patrol aircraft with 404 and 405 Squadrons and covers Atlantic search and rescue with 413 Squadron and its CH-149 Cormorant helicopters. No cargo handling agent, bonded warehouse or freight customs desk operates on the field. Air freight for Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley clears at Halifax Stanfield (YHZ), about 150 road kilometres east via Highway 101, while Moncton (YQM) in New Brunswick absorbs express volumes. The longest of the four runways measures roughly 2,438 metres. Canada's fourteen P-8A Poseidon aircraft, due to replace the Aurora around 2030, are driving new hangar, taxiway and apron work at the base.
