## Description

Search-and-rescue helicopters, not freighters, define Cervia Air Base (ICAO LIPC) on the Adriatic coast of Emilia-Romagna, near Pisignano in the province of Ravenna. Home to the Italian Air Force's 15° Stormo since 5 October 2010, the base operates HH-139 helicopters and TH-500 trainers for SAR and personnel recovery; the former 5° Stormo fighter wing has been disbanded. There are no scheduled passenger or freight services, no cargo terminal and no customs facility for commercial shipments. Regional airfreight uses Forlì (FRL, about 25 km) and Rimini (RMI, about 35 km) instead, with Bologna Marconi (BLQ, a little over 100 road kilometres) handling the largest tonnage in Emilia-Romagna. The A14 motorway and the E45 make road feeder service between Ravenna, Forlì and Bologna the normal arrangement, including pre- and on-carriage for the seaport of Ravenna. In March 2026 the resident 83° Gruppo SAR marked its centenary, and the base held a public open day in June 2026.
