## Description

Twelve thousand five hundred feet of runway – among the longest in Florida – and not a single scheduled flight: Cecil Airport (IATA: VQQ, ICAO: KVQQ) in western Jacksonville inherited its outsized infrastructure from the US Navy, which ran NAS Cecil Field as a master jet base until 1999. Today MRO companies, military training and test flights use the field, which doubles as the FAA-licensed Cecil Spaceport for horizontal launches; a reentry license is under FAA review and expected around 2027. In February 2024 Boeing opened a USD 245.8 million maintenance facility here, 385,000 square feet sized for widebody military and maritime-patrol aircraft. Routine air cargo does not exist – freight for the region moves through Jacksonville International (JAX), while the adjacent Cecil Commerce Center keeps adding large distribution warehouses.
