## Description

Cecil Airport (VQQ/KVQQ) began life as Naval Air Station Cecil Field and kept the runway system that came with it: four 200-foot-wide runways, three of 8,000 feet and one of 12,500 feet, among the longest in Florida. Now the fourth airport of the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, roughly 15 miles west of downtown Jacksonville, it is designated for corporate aviation, military and reserve units, general aviation and air cargo. The long runway can take widebody freighters, although no named cargo airline or scheduled freight service is documented at the field; the commercial centre of gravity is maintenance, repair and overhaul work plus aviation-related industrial development. Road and rail connections and the deep-water port of Jacksonville support air-sea and air-rail combinations from the site. As Cecil Spaceport the airport is licensed for horizontal space launch, and in 2025 the authority applied to certify it for space vehicle landings as well. Routine air freight with customs clearance for the region is handled at Jacksonville International (JAX), with Miami (MIA) and Orlando (MCO) covering intercontinental lanes.
