## Description

CXI and PLCH identify Cassidy International Airport, sited north of the settlement of Banana on Kiritimati — Christmas Island — the largest coral atoll on earth and part of Kiribati's Line Islands. About seven flights a week served the field as of November 2025, of which two to three are international rotations. Fiji Airways connects it with Nadi and with Honolulu, the only non-stop link between the United States and Kiribati, while Air Kiribati and Nauru Airlines add domestic and regional services. Freight travels solely as belly cargo on these passenger aircraft; there is no cargo terminal, no cold-chain capacity and no freighter service, so the airport is not cargo-capable. Building materials, fuel and consumer goods reach the atoll by infrequent sea calls, leaving air freight to light, urgent items such as medicines and spare parts. Those consignments are consolidated at Nadi (NAN) in Fiji or Honolulu (HNL) in Hawaii; Tarawa (TRW), the national capital's airport, lies more than 3,000 km to the west.
