## Description

Inaugurated in 1982 to serve what would become the world's largest iron ore mine, Carajás Airport (CKS) sits deep in southeastern Pará. Yet the ore itself never flies: it rolls 892 kilometres along the Carajás Railway (EFC) to the Ponta da Madeira terminal near São Luís for export. The airport's job is people and urgency — Azul and Gol connect Parauapebas to Belém, Belo Horizonte (Confins) and Marabá, while air freight is limited to belly cargo and time-critical mining parts. There is no commercial cargo terminal for bulk consignments, which travel by rail and sea instead. Under AENA management since 2022, CKS has been modernised to keep pace with the region's mining economy.
