## Description

Carajás Airport (CKS/SBCJ) handled 406 tonnes of cargo in 2025, up 37 per cent – a modest figure next to the iron ore around it, because the ore never flies. It rolls 892 kilometres along the Carajás Railway (EFC) to the Ponta da Madeira terminal near São Luís for export. Vale built the airport in 1981 to serve its own mining project in southeastern Pará; it lies 18 kilometres from Parauapebas and about 28 kilometres from the mine, with a passenger terminal of roughly 884 square metres sized for 140,000 travellers a year. Azul and Gol link Parauapebas to Belém, Belo Horizonte (Confins) and Marabá, and air freight moves purely as belly cargo on those passenger flights, typically urgent mining spares and equipment. No dedicated cargo terminal or freighter operation is documented, so heavy and bulk consignments stay on rail and sea. Aena has held a 30-year concession since 18 August 2022 and has been upgrading the facilities. For larger or international shipments out of southeastern Pará, Belém (BEL) and Marabá (MAB) are the practical alternatives, reached overland on the BR-155 highway.
