## Description

In service since 1934, Captain Ernesto Esguerra Cubides Air Base (TQS/SKTQ) near Tres Esquinas in the Caquetá department is a Colombian Air Force installation rather than a civil airport. It hosts Combat Air Command CACOM 6 and the Grupo Aéreo del Sur, supporting army and police operations in southern Colombia near the Peruvian and Brazilian borders, and works from a single runway of about 1,900 metres. There are no scheduled passenger flights, no freighter services, no handling agents and no customs post for air cargo, so commercial shipments cannot be routed through it. The base lies a few kilometres from the town of Solano, close to the confluence of the Orteguaza and Caquetá rivers in a region that still depends heavily on river transport. Civil traffic in the department is handled at Gustavo Artunduaga Paredes Airport in Florencia (FLA). International air freight for Colombia moves through El Dorado in Bogotá (BOG), by far the country's largest cargo airport, with onward road or river legs into Caquetá.
