## Description

A rebuilt runway returned to service in 2025, night operations resumed and further apron and terminal work is under way — Capitán FAP Guillermo Concha Iberico Airport (PIU/SPUR) is in the middle of a modernisation programme run by concessionaire Aeropuertos del Perú (ADP). It is the busiest airport in northern Peru, with around 1.1 million passengers in 2024. Scheduled service is domestic, so air freight moves overwhelmingly as belly cargo; a cargo terminal built for freighter operations is not confirmed at Piura. The region's export economy rests on mangoes, table grapes and bananas alongside fishing and oil, but most of that volume leaves as ocean freight through the port of Paita some 55 kilometres away, one of Peru's main reefer ports. For air shipments, Lima Jorge Chávez (LIM) remains the country's decisive handling point, with Chiclayo (CIX) the nearest alternative airport in the north. Exporters flying perishables out of the Piura region therefore normally plan a road feeder leg down to Lima.
