## Description

Uruguay's second-busiest airport handles almost no freight: Capitán de Corbeta Carlos A. Curbelo International (IATA PDP, ICAO SULS) exists to fly holidaymakers into Punta del Este, and sits about 20 kilometres north-west of the resort on the shore of Laguna del Sauce in Maldonado department. It is run by the Consorcio Aeropuertos Internacionales S.A., and part of the site is shared with the Uruguayan Navy's naval aviation base. The main runway measures 2,133 by 45 metres and takes narrowbodies such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 — too short for widebody freighters — and the airport operates no dedicated cargo terminal. Traffic is sharply seasonal, peaking with Argentine and Brazilian visitors between December and February and thinning out in winter, which makes belly capacity hard to plan around. Air freight for Uruguay is concentrated almost entirely at Montevideo Carrasco (MVD) roughly 130 kilometres west, where the cargo terminal, customs clearance and free-zone regime are located; the Ruta Interbalnearia links the two in about ninety minutes. For sea-air combinations the port of Montevideo is the natural companion.
