## Description

One scheduled route is all that Captain Aníbal Arab Airport (CIJ/SLCO) offers the capital of Bolivia's Pando department: Boliviana de Aviación flies to La Paz, some 600 kilometres to the south-west. How tight that supply is became clear in December 2025, when the government invoked emergency provisions so the air force could add flights between Cobija and La Paz over the holidays; in 2026 the state invited private operators to launch air-taxi services from the field. For freight this means no freighter movements, no cargo terminal and no air-cargo customs desk — consignments ride as belly cargo and are sharply limited by the scarce capacity. The town sits on the Río Acre directly opposite Brasiléia in the Brazilian state of Acre, so much of the goods traffic crosses the border bridge by road instead. Air shipments destined for Pando are best routed through El Alto in La Paz (LPB), or through Viru Viru in Santa Cruz de la Sierra (VVI) for larger volumes; on the Brazilian side Rio Branco (RBR) is the nearest option.
