## Description

Capital International Airport (IATA CCE, ICAO HECP) sits about 45 kilometres east of central Cairo, inside Egypt's New Administrative Capital, and was opened by the state-owned Egyptian Airports Company in July 2019, with commercial operations following in 2020. Traffic has remained modest and is dominated by government, charter and one-off movements; no dedicated cargo terminal or regular freighter service is confirmed for CCE, so what freight moves here travels as belly cargo on passenger aircraft. Air freight for greater Cairo therefore continues to run through Cairo International (CAI) some 40 kilometres to the north-west, where the cargo village, the customs offices and Egyptair Cargo's operation are located. Alexandria Borg El Arab (HBE) serves the northern coast and Sphinx International (SPX) west of Giza is a further option. Road access to the new capital via the regional ring road and the Cairo-Suez corridor is well built out, keeping trucking times between CCE, CAI and the Red Sea port of Ain Sokhna manageable. Shippers supplying ministries or construction sites in the new capital realistically plan via CAI plus a road leg.
