## Description

Around 75,000 tonnes of air cargo moved through Cape Town International in 2024, and over the first ten months of 2025 that figure climbed 42 percent. The airport sits close to central Cape Town in the Western Cape. Its freight profile is built on perishables: berries, stone fruit, seafood and Cape wine, almost all time- and temperature-critical. To handle them the station maintains chilled storage and IATA-compliant cool chains for produce and pharmaceuticals. Swissport operates one cargo warehouse, and some 24 carriers serve CPT, among them all-cargo operator Cargolux and the SkyCargo divisions of Emirates, Qatar Airways and Ethiopian. These link the Cape directly to Europe and the Gulf without routing through Johannesburg. Customs clearance runs through the South African Revenue Service (SARS). The N2 motorway connects the apron to the Port of Cape Town, supporting combined sea-air flows. For perishable exports from the Western Cape, this is the primary departure point.
