Around 89,000 tonnes of air cargo moved through Cape Town International in the first eleven months of 2025, up 35 percent year on year, with exports accounting for 58 percent of volume and temperature-controlled goods — fish, berries, meat and vegetables — making up 61 percent of exports. The airport sits close to central Cape Town in the Western Cape. Its freight profile is built on perishables: berries, stone fruit, seafood and Cape wine, almost all time- and temperature-critical. To handle them the station maintains chilled storage and IATA-compliant cool chains for produce and pharmaceuticals. Swissport operates one cargo warehouse, and some 24 carriers serve CPT, among them all-cargo operator Cargolux and the SkyCargo divisions of Emirates, Qatar Airways and Ethiopian, linking the Cape directly to Europe and the Gulf without routing through Johannesburg. Customs clearance runs through the South African Revenue Service (SARS). The N2 motorway connects the apron to the Port of Cape Town, supporting combined sea-air flows. A roughly R21.7 billion terminal expansion is under way to secure capacity for coming years. For perishable exports from the Western Cape, this remains the primary departure point.
