## Description

Roughly 4,900 acres of tundra inside the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge surround Cape Romanzof LRRS Airport (IATA CZF, ICAO PACZ), a strip that exists only to reach the long range radar site on the ridge above it. The station was one of the ten original aircraft control and warning sites of the Alaska air defence system, has run unmanned since 1983 and is administered by the 611th Air Support Group in Anchorage as part of the Alaska Radar System. Only maintenance and resupply flights operate here; the field is closed to the public and offers no cargo facility and no customs post, and winter weather frequently makes it unreachable for days at a time. Commercial shipments for the area are addressed to the village fields at Hooper Bay (HPB) and Scammon Bay (SCM), which in turn depend on the regional transfer hub at Bethel (BET). Bethel receives cargo flights from Anchorage (ANC), and bush operators distribute onward to gravel strips across the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. There are no roads in this region; in summer river boats on the Yukon and coastal barges supplement the air bridge.
