## Description

Captain James Cook named Cape Newenham in 1778; the US Air Force added a radar station in the 1950s, and Cape Newenham LRRS Airport (IATA EHM, ICAO PAEH) serves that station alone. Its sloping gravel strip is cut into the mountainside between Kuskokwim Bay and Bristol Bay in south-western Alaska, and only maintenance and resupply flights use it. The radar site has been unmanned since 1983 and is administered as part of the Alaska Radar System by the 611th Air Support Group in Anchorage; the field is closed to the public and has no terminal, cargo handling or customs facility, with winter storms and icing regularly closing it for days.
