## Description

Few regional airports sit so close to heavy freight traffic and carry so little of it as Calais-Dunkerque (CQF/LFAC) at Marck, some seven kilometres east of Calais. The Channel Tunnel, the ferry port of Calais and the A16 motorway move enormous volumes past the field, yet the airport itself has no scheduled commercial services and is used for business and general aviation, aircraft maintenance, parachuting and occasional ad hoc freight flights. The site is owned by the Grand Calais Terres et Mers agglomeration authority and has been operated by infrastructure group Edeis Concessions since 1 January 2024. For plannable air cargo out of northern France, the realistic options are Lille-Lesquin (LIL) roughly 110 kilometres to the south-east and the Belgian freight airports of Ostend-Bruges (OST) and Liège (LGG), with Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Brussels (BRU) for intercontinental lanes. Since Brexit, Calais matters to shippers primarily as a road and ferry frontier: export and import formalities for United Kingdom traffic are handled at the port and tunnel terminals rather than at the airfield. In September 2026 the airport hosts "Les Ailes de Grand Calais", its first major flying event since 2008.
