## Description

A dedicated cargo terminal rated at around 25,000 tonnes a year underpins freight handling at Cotonou's Cadjehoun, Benin's largest airport, even if actual throughput remains far below that ceiling — roughly 4,700 tonnes on a 2022 annualised basis. Officially renamed Cardinal Bernardin Gantin International Airport, it is still traded and booked as COO. Menzies Aviation runs cargo ground handling, with Air France Cargo serving Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Allied Air linking Lagos and Libreville. Belly capacity comes from Ethiopian Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Turkish Airlines, ASKY, Air Côte d'Ivoire and Air Senegal. The airport works hand in hand with the adjacent Autonomous Port of Cotonou, a major West African seaport and transit point for landlocked Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali. Cotton and cashew nuts dominate the export mix. A greenfield replacement at Glo-Djigbé, agreed with Chinese partners in 2017 and planned with a 4.25 km runway and its own freight terminal, was described by the government in 2022 as no longer a priority; no opening date is confirmed.
