## Description

Around 150,000 passengers a year and no freight at all: that is what remains of Buyant-Ukhaa (ULN/ZMUB), Mongolia's main international airport until July 2021, when scheduled and cargo traffic moved to the new Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN) some 50 kilometres south of Ulaanbaatar. The in-town field now serves as a backup and as a base for government, charter and flight-training operations. No cargo terminal, customs post or freighter activity is documented at ULN any longer; Mongolian air freight is concentrated entirely at UBN, which targeted roughly 2.4 million passengers for 2025 and handles goods mainly as belly cargo on MIAT Mongolian Airlines and foreign carriers. Larger volumes into Mongolia are usually combined with surface transport through the Chinese and Russian border crossings, above all Erenhot–Zamyn-Üüd on the rail corridor to Beijing. For urgent shipments, consolidation through Northeast Asian hubs such as Beijing, Seoul-Incheon or Hong Kong remains the standard routing. For forwarders, ULN matters mainly as a code not to confuse with UBN, where acceptance actually happens.
