## Description

One gravel runway of about 1,526 by 30 metres at 2,645 ft, kept as a compacted snow-and-gravel surface through the winter and soft in the thaw: that is the whole of Burwash Airport (IATA: YDB, ICAO: CYDB), operated by the Yukon government some 3.7 km north-west of Burwash Landing. Traffic consists of charter and supply flights, tourism into Kluane National Park, medevac and government work and mineral-exploration sorties; there are no scheduled services, no freighter operations, no cargo terminal and no customs post. Air freight for the area is handled at Whitehorse Erik Nielsen International (YXY), roughly 280 km south-east, the only Yukon airport with regular cargo connections and CBSA clearance, with Vancouver (YVR) as the onward international gateway. Because the Alaska Highway runs past the field, road transport is almost always cheaper than flying for anything not acutely time-critical — though frost heave, permafrost settlement and weather closures belong in any transit-time calculation. For cross-border consignments into Alaska, the Beaver Creek crossing about 180 km north-west is the relevant customs point. Heavy project and mining cargo can alternatively reach the region through the southeast Alaska ports of Skagway and Haines.
