Mini-Cassia and the wider Magic Valley run on potatoes, sugar beet and dairy — commodities that leave southern Idaho on refrigerated and dry trucks, not through the local runway. Burley Municipal Airport (IATA: BYI, ICAO: KBYI), officially named after potato entrepreneur J. R. "Jack" Simplot in 2002, sits about a mile north-east of Burley in Cassia County with two asphalt runways of roughly 4,094 and 4,067 ft. Around 98 per cent of movements are general aviation — crop-spraying, business flights and training — and there are no scheduled services, no freighter operations, no cargo terminal and no air-freight customs facility. At an elevation of some 4,150 ft, runways of that length restrict the field to smaller turboprops and business jets; freighter aircraft cannot work here.
