## Description

A master plan worth nearly VND 20 trillion, about USD 760 million, was approved in 2026 for Buon Ma Thuot Airport (BMV, VVBM), the principal air access to Dak Lak, Vietnam's Central Highlands coffee province. The scheme keeps the existing 3,000 m runway, renovates Terminal 1 for two million passengers, adds a Terminal 2 for three million and reserves a second 2,400 m runway, with cargo design capacity of 10,000 tonnes a year to 2030 and 15,000 tonnes by 2050. Those targets describe what the field is not yet: today it is a domestic passenger airport flown by Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, with no dedicated cargo terminal, freighter service or permanent customs post confirmed on site. Air shipments consequently move as belly load. Robusta coffee, pepper, cashew and durian leave Dak Lak by truck on National Highway 14 towards Ho Chi Minh City and on QL26 to the coastal ports, as no railway reaches the highlands. Urgent air freight is worked at Tan Son Nhat (SGN) roughly 320 km south, while nearer Lien Khuong (DLI) at Da Lat spent about five months closed for runway repairs in 2026 before returning to service.
