## Description

More an aid-logistics node than a commercial freight stop, Bunia Airport (BUX) is the principal air access to the unstable Ituri province in north-eastern DR Congo. Its 1,850 m asphalt runway moves substantial humanitarian and military cargo alongside passengers, often on C-130 Hercules flying troop rotations and supplies for MONUSCO and the Congolese armed forces. The WFP and UNHCR depend on the field to reach displaced populations, and in May 2026 an air bridge from Nairobi carried WHO supplies for an Ebola outbreak. There is no conventional commercial cargo terminal, so purely commercial air freight routes through Kinshasa-Ndjili (FIH) or nearby Entebbe (EBB) in Uganda. With road links insecure, the air corridor is critical for time-sensitive and relief shipments. For freight forwarders, Bunia is best read as a humanitarian access point rather than a trade hub.
