## Description

Construction of a replacement airport outside the city sets the horizon for today's Bukhara International Airport (BHK / UTSB), which handled 574,036 passengers in 2025. The USD 226 million public-private project covers a 48,500 m² terminal, a 3.3 km runway and 20 stands; the tender went out in March 2026 and opening is targeted for early 2027. Traffic at the current field is tourism-led, with services to Tashkent and seasonal links to Moscow and Istanbul. There is no evidence of a dedicated cargo terminal at BHK, so freight moves as belly load only and no freighter operations are documented. Air cargo for the region is consolidated at Navoi (NVI), about 100 road km away, home since August 2010 to Central Asia's largest air cargo terminal with a 100,000-tonne annual capacity and an adjoining free economic zone offering customs relief. Regional exports such as textiles, carpets and dried fruit therefore reach the aircraft by truck.
