## Description

About 695,000 passengers passed through Bucharest Băneasa "Aurel Vlaicu" (BBU/LRBS) in 2025, a sharp rise driven by the return of low-cost services to an airport that had been almost purely a business aviation base since scheduled traffic moved to Otopeni in 2012. The field lies roughly eight kilometres north of the city centre, which makes it attractive for time-critical courier shipments and corporate flights, with ground handling provided by operators including Menzies Aviation. What Băneasa does not have is dedicated freight infrastructure: no cargo terminal, no freighter handling and no air cargo customs office of its own. Romanian air freight is concentrated instead at Henri Coandă in Otopeni (OTP), some 18 kilometres further north, where the cargo terminals, handling agents and customs clearance are located. Metro line M6, under construction between Gara de Nord, Băneasa and Otopeni, will improve landside access, while goods continue to travel by road on the DN1.
